Hillsboro has posted a 2013-14 “budget in brief” on the city website to help local residents better understand what its government does and how it is funded. Although the actual budget is 733 pages, the 20-page summary offers an understandable introduction to city operations and financing. It also includes population and historic information about Hillsboro and the surrounding area.

“We strive for excellence in providing sound, reasonable, honest and transparent management of our city’s resources,” said Mayor Jerry Willey. “We believe it is important that Hillsboro residents are aware of all the services the city provides, and we hope this abbreviated document is convenient and useful to our citizens.”

The document can be found through the “budget” link under the “services” section of the website at

The 2012-13 budget in brief was honored in September with the Award of Excellence from the City-County Communications & Marketing Association. Judges complimented the budget document’s functionality and design in how it disseminated information to the public.
