The city of Hillsboro has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its fiscal year 2013-14 budget.

This is the third year Hillsboro has applied for and received the award for satisfying nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.

Hillsboro’s award “represents a significant achievement ... It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of government budgeting,” said Stephen Gauthier, spokesman for GFOA.

This is the second time in three months Hillsboro has been honored for its budgetary work. In September, the city received an award of excellence from the City-County Communicators & Marketing Association (3CMA) for its 2012-13 “Budget in Brief.” The Budget in Brief summarizes the most essential elements of the budget.

The city’s fiscal year 2013-14 full budget document and the Budget in Brief summary document are available on the city’s website, Hillsboro-oregon.gov.

More information about the GFOA and the awards process can be found at gfoa.org.
