Scappoose man dies in Cornelius Pass Road collision
A 45-year-old Scappoose man died and a Hillsboro woman was injured Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision on Northwest Cornelius Pass Road between Kaiser Road and Skyline Boulevard.
Multnomah County sheriffs deputies said Neil T. Schneider died in the accident at about 2:45 p.m. Dec. 24. Janie Edwards, 42, of Hillsboro, was injured in the collision.
The accident is still under investigation by the East County Vehicular Crimes Team.
Deputies said a Honda Civic driven Northwest on Cornelius Pass Road by Schneider apparently crossed the centerline and struck a Hyundai Sonata driven Southeast by Edwards. The two vehicles collided head-on, killing the Civics driver. The Sonatas driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of what deputies said were non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses told deputies that the Honda Civic was driving erratically as it travelled on Cornelius Pass Road prior to the accident. Initial indications are alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
