The Oregon Parks & Recreation Department invites the public to ring in 2014 by participating in one of 30 guided hikes in state parks on New Year’s Day. OPRD will waive the day-use parking fees on Jan. 1 for all visitors to participating state parks that normally require a permit. This year, 28 parks are participating in First Day Hikes, including L.L. “Stub” Stewart State Park in Washington County. The hike will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Meet at the Hilltop day-use area picnic shelter.

Guided hikes are offered at parks along the coast, in the Columbia River Gorge, southern Oregon, the Cascades and eastern Oregon.
