A fire Wednesday morning displaced two Hillsboro families living in a duplex.

The fire was reported just after midnight Feb. 5 at 2938 S.E. 39th Court.

Firefighters found the garage of one of the townhouse-style duplex units fully involved.

The crew attacked the blaze as other units arrived, including one from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue. Flames were brought under control within 13 minutes from the time the emergency call was first received.

Both families were unable to return to their homes and will be staying with relatives. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and a damage estimate is not yet available.

Hillsboro Fire & Rescue reminds citizens to make sure combustible items stored in garages or barns are kept at least three feet away from any heat-producing device, including furnaces, water heaters and heat lamps.

Ensure all heating devices are plugged directly into a wall socket. Do not use extension cords with heaters.
