Two Hillsboro School District elementary schools will have new principals next school year, according to an announcement last week by Superintendent Mike Scott.

Lindsay Garcia will be the new principal at Eastwood Elementary School. Currently a bilingual coach and classroom teacher at Minter Bridge Elementary School, Garcia will replace Kona Williams, who was recently named the district’s new human resources director.

Christy Walters will be the new principal at Quatama Elementary School, replacing the retiring Janis Hill. Walters has spent the majority of this year as an instructional coach at Witch Hazel Elementary School, but is currently filling in as the interim principal at McKinney Elementary School. She came to the Hillsboro School District in 2006 from Nacogdoches, Texas, where she taught at a charter school. In another administrative move, Becky Kingsmith will be the new coordinator of secondary teaching and learning. As a teacher on special assignment this year in the office for school performance, Kingsmith has been doing the coordinator job. That role has been reconfigured to allow the provision of an even higher level of service to secondary teachers next year.

All positions will become effective July 1.
