Second summer intern arrives in newsroom

David Roza, an English major at Haverford College in Haverford, Pa., has arrived in Washington County as a summertime intern for the News-Times and Hillsboro Tribune.Roza

Roza, a native of Maryland, graduated from Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa. Over the past three years he has written stories and filmed video for Haverford’s campus newspaper, The Clerk.

A long-distance runner, Roza placed ninth in the steeplechase event at the Division III collegiate track and field championships in Delaware, Ohio, over Memorial Day weekend.

Roza will work with newsroom staffers to learn journalistic principles and write stories for both Pamplin Media Group papers during his paid internship. He is especially interested in reporting on environmental issues and writing profiles about western local residents.

“I had always heard really great things about how beautiful Oregon is,” Roza said. “That, and working with reporters and editors at the News-Times and Hillsboro Tribune, will be a great combination.” This is his first experience living in the Pacific Northwest.

Kate Stringer, a recent graduate of the University of Portland, arrived in late May as part of the prestigious Charles Snowden Program for Excellence in Journalism, sponsored by the University of Oregon.
