Officers nab weekend burglars

In Hillsboro last Friday, July 11, Hillsboro police officers responded to 2905 S.W. Cornelius Pass Road on a report of a burglary suspect.

The witness reported that a male suspect had entered an apartment and gained entry into another adjoining apartment by kicking a wall and getting up into the attic area.

Once inside, the suspect allegedly stole guns from the apartment. Officers thought he had barricaded himself in the attic, so they contained the area and evacuated people from the four-plex apartment building.

Due to the dangerous nature of the situation and the suspect’s possession of weapons, the Washington County Tactical Negotiations Team and Crisis Intervention Unit responded.

The tactical team cleared the structure at about 8:30 p.m. after determining the suspect had fled prior to containment and was not at the scene.

The 22-year-old man, later identified as Kevin Toler, was arrested as a suspect later in Cornelius.

Last Saturday, July 12, WCSO deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress after a man found another man inside his home on S.W. Pheasant Drive in Aloha.

The suspect allegedly assaulted the homeowner before taking off on foot.

The suspect was identified as 46-year-old Bret T. Davis, whose last known address was in Hillsboro.

Deputies found Davis hiding in a tree. In his bid to escape, Davis fell about 40 feet to the ground and was taken into custody. Officers tried to convince Davis to come down before he fell, but he refused. He sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
