The women joined a plethora of pretty proud pooches (and their owners) paraded around the plaza at Tuesday Marketplace Tuesday night, July 22 in downtown Hillsboro.

Dogs on Parade is the biggest fundraising and awareness event of the year for the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter in Hillsboro. The dog-centric, family-friendly event was held at the Civic Center Plaza.

"This event is old-fashioned fun, with lots of activities for dogs and their people," said Jennifer Keene, outreach and events coordinator for the shelter.

Everyone was encouraged to bring friendly, social dogs — but there was plenty of fun to be had even without a canine companion in tow.

The evening’s schedule included doggie demonstrations, a dog parade and contests for the best dog-owner lookalike; largest and smallest dogs; best trick and best costume. by: HILLSBORO TRIBUNE PHOTOS: KENDRA HOGUE - Butter the Ibizan Hound was shown by Kandy Sterling of Beaverton Petco.

The event also served as an opportunity to raise money for the animals at the Bonnie Hays shelter.

"Dogs on Parade has become a tradition. People look forward to it every year as a way to support the animal shelter and have fun with their own dogs while doing it," said Keene.
