As expected, the Hillsboro Utilities Commission approved an 11 percent water rate increase on Monday.
The increase will help pay for major infrastructure upgrades in the Willamette Water Supply program, according to city officials. The increase also helps cover operating costs, as residents and businesses are using less water than projected several years ago.
According to a city news release, a typical residential customer will see an increase of $3.25 per month to $32.75. This is "among the lowest in the Portland Metro region," according to the release.
The change will take affect on Oct. 1.
