Hillsboro firefighter dies in Morrow County accident
Hillsboro firefighter and paramedic Ryan Grimaldi died Friday, Nov. 3, while hunting in Morrow County.
The Hillsboro Fire Department announced his death Saturday, Nov. 4. Grimaldi had been with the department of six years. Officials said Grimaldi was killed when a tree fell on him in a heavily wooded area near Heppner.
Grimaldi, who was 34, was the department's firefighter of the year in 2015.
Members of the Hillsboro Fire Department will travel to Heppner Sunday to escort his body back to Tualatin. Firefighters also will wear mourning bands over their badges through the day of Grimadli's memorial service.
"Ryan was an outstanding firefighter and member of the Hillsboro Fire Department family," said Operation Chief Scott Magers. "Ryan served the department and the community well. He will be greatly missed."
Funeral arrangements are pending.
