Man charged in Hillsboro crash that injured Tigard cop
Hillsboro police have arrested a man after he allegedly crashed his car into a stalled vehicle along Highway 26, seriously injuring an off-duty Tigard police officer.
Darby Andrew McBride was arrested Wednesday, March 21, and booked in the Washington County Jail on charges of third-degree assault, reckless driving and second-degree criminal mischief.
According to Hillsboro police, McBride was driving westbound along Highway 26 at about 1:24 a.m., Dec. 14, 2017, when he allegedly crashed his car into a stalled vehicle parked on the shoulder of the highway, near th Cornelius Pass Road exit in Hillsboro.
The driver of the stalled vehicle, off-duty Tigard police officer Mathew Barbee, sustained serious injuries in the crash.
Hillsboro Police spokesman Henry Reimann said McBride will not face charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants.
The county's Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team, made up of investigators from several area police agencies, investigated the case.
