Affordable housing for seniors ready in Orenco
The first affordable housing project in Washington County opened in the Orenco Station neighborhood Thursday.
Alma Gardens offers 45 one-bedroom apartments for low-income seniors. They rent for $600 a month, including all utilities, and are reserved for households earning no more than $29,160 for one person or $33,360 for a two-person household.
The building features a community room with computer lab, shared community-wide wireless Internet service, laundry facilities on each floor, hallways and common areas enhanced with art, a full-time on-site property manager and an 8,000 square foot communal garden. Each apartment includes Energy Star appliances, large windows and a master shutoff switch for all outlets.
The $9.3 million project at 6300 N.E. Cherry Dr. was built by Northwest Housing Alternatives, a nonprofit developer of affordable housing in Oregon. It is the organizations first project in Washington County.Add a comment
