The three artists featured at Sequoia Gallery & Studios during the month of November are Penny Forrest, Becky Gravenmier and Elina Zebergs.

Forrest’s show features explosively colored and playful oil and mixed media paintings. Inspired by the joy of being out of doors and the chaos she finds in nature, Forrest’s work includes deconstructed and abstracted landscapes.

Gravenmier handcrafts jewelry that reflects the colors and shapes of Pacific Northwest forests and rangelands.

Her November show features soldered and hammered sterling silver and copper, combined with gemstones and beads. She also creates organic jewelry from silver and copper metal clay.

Zebergs, a longtime oil painter, delves into the ancient art form of encaustic painting — painting with hot wax — with her recent work.

The technique allows an artist not only to paint, but also to layer and sculpt color applied to a surface. Zebergs is currently exploring abstract images.

The show begins Nov. 5 and runs through Nov. 30 at Sequoia Gallery, 136 S.E. Third Ave., Hillsboro. More info is online or at 503-693-0401.

Summa’s featured artist for November is Jess StewartMaize, a Hillsboro photographer with a keen interest in capturing the diverse natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. His work includes distinctive landscapes that show his love of bold, dynamic images.

You can see StewartMaize’s photos through Nov. 30 at Summa, 231 E. Main St., Hillsboro.

The First Tuesday opening receptions, where you can meet the artists, will be on Nov. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., at both galleries. Appetizers and wine will be served. Guitarist Rick Sohler will perform at Summa during the reception.
