Local writer C.J. Stuart is gathering county writers at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at McMenamin’s Grand Lodge, 3505 Pacific Ave., in Forest Grove. The group will continue to meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.

At the first meeting, attendees will introduce themselves and discuss the group’s main goals.

There are no genre restrictions. The mission is to provide an evening venue for adult writers who already have a novel or short story in progress.

Members can share constructive critiques and motivational support for each other while building skills and having fun.

Membership is limited. Submitting an application email of 500 to 1,000 words that includes writing goals is required.

Signups open for TITG summer camps

Theatre in the Grove’s CAST (Children’s After School Theatre) has scheduled four CAST Camps and three CAST Playhouse productions, including two musicals, this summer. Don Cleland, who started the first summer camps at TITG more than 25 years ago, will join Jeanna Van Dyke and John Anderberg as an instructor and director.

Students meet for three and a half hours each day for two weeks. During that time, they’ll explore the art of the stage through theater games, exercises, improvisation and creating their own original play.

On the last day of the session, TITG will hold a free public performance featuring the work of the young actors. Camp sizes are limited.

CAST Playhouse is in its fifth year and provides a free opportunity for young people to be involved in an educational theatrical production. This year, the playhouse will feature two musicals, one for children ages 6 to 12 and one for teens, as well as one non-musical play. No audition is necessary; children just need to apply.

For more information or to sign up for either the CAST Camps or the CAST Playhouses, visit or call 503-359-5349.
