Sophomore Ellie Thornbrue sparks the Century girls with a state championship in the 200-yard freestyle
The Century girls swim team turned in an impressive performance at the OSAA Class 6A state swimming championships over the weekend, scoring 84 points to finish in sixth place overall.
The Jaguars were led by sophomore Ellie Thornbrue, who won an individual state championship in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.11, and she also took second place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:56.05.
Century sophomore Logan Neal took third place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.54, and fourth place in the 100 free with a time of 53.71.
Additionally, both Thornbrue and Neal were members of the Jaguars two state-qualifying relay teams, combining with Yuliya Lunina and Mackenzie Clifton to finish seventh in the 200 medley relay (1:52.24), then joining Lunina and Hannah Galbraith for a sixth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:39.99).
The Glencoe boys took 21st place at the state meet with 10 points. Senior Brian Rasmussen finished sixth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:56.12.
The Liberty boys claimed fourth place at the Class 5A state meet with 24 points. Junior Anton Loncar won a state title in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.25, and he also took fifth place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.29. Freshman Daniel Lupro finished second in the 100 breastroke (59.77) and third in the 200 individual medley (1:59.12), while the 200 medley relay team of Loncar, Lupro, Nick Meek and McGregor Sumner took fourth place with a time of 1:44.69.
The Liberty girls only point at the 5A state meet came from sophomore Hailey Cablao, who finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.85.
