Local teams make volleyball playoffs
The state volleyball playoffs began earlier this week with play-in round games, and two local teams are still left standing.
Glencoe advanced to the 32-team Class 6A playoff bracket, while Liberty is one of 16 teams vying for the Class 5A state title.
Glencoe (14-7) finished fourth in the final Pacific Conference standings and hosted David Douglas for a play-in game last Saturday. The Crimson Tide breezed to an easy 25-8, 25-15, 25-9 victory that sent the team into a first-round playoff matchup on the road against Southridge (16-9). That match was scheduled to be played on Wednesday, but results were not available at press time.
Liberty (12-9), meanwhile, finished fourth in the Northwest Oregon Conference and hosted Hermiston for a play-in game on Tuesday. The Falcons notched a 25-14, 25-17, 25-20 victory to set up a first-round road trip to Willamette (14-5) on Saturday.
Century and Hillsboro were not quite as lucky. The Jaguars were bounced 25-11, 25-18, 25-16 by McNary in a play-in game, and the Spartans suffered a 25-10, 25-10, 25-22 loss against West Linn.
Soccer playoffs getting started
The state soccer playoffs are also under way, with play-in games finished and the first round set to kick off on Saturday.

The Glencoe girls played their way into the playoff field with a 7-0 victory over McKay on Tuesday. The Crimson Tide (8-5-1) will travel to South Salem (9-3-3) on Saturday for a first-round contest.
Glencoes boys lost 2-1 to Gresham on Tuesday in a play-in game.
The Century boys earned a bye through the play-in round after finishing fourth in the conference this season. The Jaguars (7-2-4) will host Reynolds (6-6-2) at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the 53rd Ave. Soccer Complex.
Centurys girls lost 3-0 to Beaverton in a play-in game on Tuesday.
