PETROFF CENTER - Dr. Mark PetroffThe Metro Area enjoyed a steady stretch of sunshine recently. Is summer finally here?

Regardless of whether it stays sunny or returns to our customary gray skies, it's time to get serious about your skincare routine. May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and there's no time like the present to start protecting your skin and your health.

To minimize exposure to UV rays, add these sun-safe tips to your daily routine:

Wear sunscreen every day, rain or shine. It's one of the best ways to minimize your risk of skin cancer.

Pick a smart sunscreen. Use SPF 30 or higher and make sure the sunscreen you use provides broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Try an all-in-one moisturizer with sunscreen, peptides and antioxidants.

Bronzers: Achieve a healthy glow with tanning lotions instead of damaging your skin by sunbathing or booth-tanning.

Wear protective clothing. Cover up with clothes made of tightly woven fabrics and wear a wide-brimmed hat. Wear sunglasses with UV protection to protect your eyes and prevent wrinkles.

Seek shade. The sun's rays are the strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
