Lake Oswego Realtor Mike Hall, Hasson Company Realtors - LAKE OSWEGO REAL ESTATE INSIDERUpdating your home with the newest smart technology doesn't have to be difficult or a big investment. There are many fun and easy ways to a smarter home. Assuming you already have Wi-Fi at home, these home tech devices can help you get started:

Belkin WeMo Mini Smart Plug: At just $35, this plug (www.belkin.com) can make many of your existing devices "smart." Smart plugs use your Wi-Fi network to give you wireless control of lamps, heaters, fans, and other appliances from your phone or tablet. You can then pair them with a voice control system, set schedules, or randomize your lights.

Ecobee4 Smart Thermostat: Getting great reviews compared to Nest, this smart thermostat can help reduce energy costs and keep your house feeling comfortable year-round. Smart thermostat sensors can adjust the temperature when you're away to save you money.

Oregon residents with electric or natural gas heating from PGE, Pacific Power, NW Natural, Cascade Natural Gas, or Avista may be eligible for a $50 cash incentive from Energy Trust of Oregon toward a smart thermostat, such as the ecobee4 ($249). To find out if you're eligible, visit www.energytrust.org.

Nest Protect: ($119, www.nest.com) Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are one of the most important, yet easily overlooked, devices in your home. The Nest Protect can send an alert to your phone when the alarm goes off, even if you're away from home, and provide spoken alerts that tell you in which room the emergency is occurring.

Have fun, and call me with any real estate questions!
