A highlight of the day was the appearance of Rojo, the therapy llama, whose role it was to soothe sad hearts over the closing of the business.

“For over 10 years, the café has served more than coffee, milkshakes or tendered the legendary truffles,” said customer Joan Maiers. “In turn, many visitors have become more than customers. The café has welcomed morning coffee klatch groups, knitting groups, out-of-town visitors, 12-step groups, authors-at-work, romantic coffee dates, business meetings, wine tastings, featured monthly artists, chocolatier demonstrations, monthly literary series. ...The café encouraged a symbiotic business relationship, especially between the bagel store, the hardware store, the florist shop and the grocery store.”

Maiers said that store manager James Ewing promoted an alliance with the Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce and supported a cultural atmosphere by hanging art of local artists, and allowing Maiers to host a literary series at the store, which was located off State Street.

The literary series will continue in September at a nearby Moonstruck location.
