Michell Evans brings highest skills to new LO pet grooming shop

by: REVIEW, TIDINGS PHOTO: VERN UYETAKE - Michell Evans displays the tools of her trade as one of the outstanding pet groomers in the world. She has now set up her shop in Lake Oswego. Both dogs and cats are welcome.

For someone who strives for perfection in grooming dogs and cats, Lake Oswego is the perfect place for Michell Evans.

She has just returned to Lake Oswego to start her new grooming business Canine Perfection on 16066 Boones Ferry Road, and be it ever so dog friendly, there’s no place like Lake Oswego.

“I worked as the groomer at Oswego Veterinary Hospital for six years, until I left in 2004,” Evans said. “I love Lake Oswego. I love it. I am so drawn to this area, and if I was going to plant myself and open my own business somewhere I wanted it to be here.”

While Evans is benefiting from Lake Oswego, Lake Oswego is benefiting from getting perhaps the world’s greatest pet groomer. She just brought back the gold medal from the World Team Dog Grooming Championship in Barcelona, Spain. She competed as a member of GroomTeam USA, which is the dream team of pet grooming.

“It’s sort of the Olympics of pet grooming,” Evans explained. “Our fans come to wave flags and chant ‘USA! USA!’”

Evans’ commitment to the big event makes other Olympians look like sluggards in comparison. She has been fine tuning her abilities by grooming a wire-haired fox terrier for the past 18 months. It is hard to fathom how good this dog will look.

Truly a renaissance woman of pet grooming, Evans is a public speaker, trade show presenter, show judge, educational video maker, and with her All-American girl face she makes a great cover model for pet grooming magazines. She must travel widely to accept all of the awards given to her, and she recently got back from the dog grooming hotbed of Hershey, Pa., where she was given the Barkleigh Award for being America’s Up and Coming Grooming Judge of the Year.

Still, Evans’ biggest joy does not come from cheering crowds in convention centers or fairgrounds. It is in getting one dog to look its very best, and that is the main reason why she is so excited to be coming to Lake Oswego. She has been grooming pets ever since she was a little girl, and it is the only thing she wants to do in her life. She is a dog’s best friend.

“I love every aspect of dog grooming,” Evans said. “I love taking care of all my little clients, checking every bump, looking at their teeth, getting to know their owners.”

It should be pointed out that Evans’ new enterprise could also be called Feline Perfection, since she is also an expert at grooming cats. Of course, dogs and cats will have separate appointment times.
