Nessa Sander is excited about her new showplace on Second Street

by: REVIEW, TIDINGS PHOTO: VERN UYETAKE - Want a card? Just go to the Card Bar in Lake Oswego where Ali McPhee, left, and Nessa Sander will give plenty of expert guidance.

The Card Bar gives Nessa Sander just what she needs: a place to show all of the cards she designs for special occasions, which is something she has wanted for years.

After all, Sander has something special to offer with her personally designed cards for weddings, engagements, birth announcements, bar mitzvahs, parties, business letterheads and more. Her light is no longer under a basket.

“I am so excited about this,” said Sander. “We just needed a showroom. When you have that ‘special event,’ we can make the cards for it. I want to create a card that reflects the theme of an event or your personality. This shop is for people who love stationery.”

Sander started her customized card business in 2002 in San Francisco, but she figured that her growing family would do better in Lake Oswego. She was right about that. And now that she has her very own shop, everything is coming up roses for Sander.

“It’s great to be able to pull my work out of boxes and put it on the walls,” she said.

It is even better that she can provide a unique place for her customers. After all, how many businesses offer you a glass of champagne when you walk through the door? That is only the beginning of the fun at The Card Bar.

“This is great place for wedding planners to meet with their clients,” Sander said. “We want people to sit down and relax and have a great experience. We want coming here to be as fun as possible and as easy as possible.”

Sander is assisted in all her endeavors by her friend Ali McPhee.

Besides custom cards, The Card Bar sells such items as purses, coasters, napkins, candles and earrings. All of them are made by local craftspeople.

The Card Bar is located at 435 Second St., which is in the alley behind the Country Square shopping center on Second Street. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and also by appointment. For more information, call 503-953-4056.
