by: SUBMITTED - Ann Fleming will also be exhibiting her sculpture at the festival, including this piece, 'Warrior Woman.'The 16th annual Art in the Pearl Fine Arts and Crafts Festival will be held Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1 through 3 in the North Park blocks of Portland.

The festival is one of the nation’s premier art festivals and only one in six artists who apply from across the U.S. and Canada are invited to take one of the 130 tree-lined spots. Visitors to the festival can view art in a variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, wood, jewelry and more. Visitors are able to talk with the artists about their inspiration and process.

Ann Munson and Ann Fleming, both of West Linn, are exhibiting their art at the Art in the Pearl.

“Art in the Pearl was started by 15 artists with the desire to bring to Portland a premier arts festival and has succeeded in this job by being ranked in the top 20 festivals in the nation for several years,” said Fleming, who has served on the festival’s board of directors for more than 16 years. “Each year we jury over 7,000 artists for a place in our festival. We rotate our jury made up of non-board member artists at the top of their craft in hopes of bringing an exciting ever changing festival each year.”

“I am excited to be in Art in the Pearl for my second consecutive year,” said Munson. “I will be bringing collages from three series of paintings that I made this year.”

Hours of the festival are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. Admission is free. For more information and a list of artists participating, visit
