Grandkids inspire LO woman to write award-winning books

Illustrated childrens books are sure to delight children of all ages

'Teeny Tiny Tina the Teeny Tiny Toothfairy' is the first in the Teeny Tiny Tina series.Rosemary Evans is just the kind of grandmother you would want to have, or aspire to be.

The Lake Oswego woman has written most of her life but has found her greatest success in writing children’s books. Her books are inspired by the bedtime stories she conjured up for her very own grandchildren.

“I began writing children’s books about five years ago,” Evans said. “My grandchildren are awesome! And they are such an inspiration to me. The first book came to me while telling bedtime stories. They have such imagination.”

Evans has written four children’s books: “The Little Princesses Magical Party,” “The Adventures of the Little Prince,” and two books in her Teeny Tiny Tina series: “Teeny Tiny Tina the Teeny Tiny Tooth Fairy” and “Teeny Tiny Tina and her Teeny Tiny Pet.”

Two other titles in the series, “Teeny Tiny Tina and Her Teeny Cousin Sadie” and “Teeny Tiny Tina Meets Tall Ted from Texas,” are currently being edited and await illustrations. In all of her books, Evans combines her love of children’s literature with her many years of educating and entertaining her children and grandchildren.

She weaves together traditional tales and fantasies to create a memorable world populated by loveable characters that children want to visit again and again, while imparting gentle lessons to prepare children for some of the challenges they may face while growing up.

“They teach them to accept differences and encourage them to embrace their uniqueness,” Evans said.

Evans has been nominated for a national children’s book award and will hear the outcome in November. Former Oregonian Erin Taylor, who illustrates her stories in delightful detail, is also nominated for an award.

Evan’s books are published by Lake Oswego-based Wink Publishing. They are available at Frog Pond Toys in downtown Lake Oswego as well as through Evans’ website, tinatoothfairy.com.
