Youth Action Council will host dance at the WEB

The evening begins with a dance lesson, followed by food, parlor games and dancing. The Lake Oswego Youth Action Council invites the public to kick off the Valentine season at a dance, just like those held in days of old, Feb. 2 from 7 to 11 p.m. in the Columbia room at the West End Building, 4101 SW Kruse Way, Lake Oswego.

No experience is necessary and you don’t even have to bring a partner. Fred Judkins, an Emmy award-winning sound supervisor at Paramount Pictures, will be calling out the dance steps to ensure a good time is had by all. Judkins is an instructor with the Victorian Tea and Dance Society in Pasadena, Calif.

“Victorian dance is very easy and they are done to very beautiful music,” Judkins said. “These dances are all called, so you don’t have to memorize any steps. And it’s lady’s choice, so you don’t have to have your own partner.”

Judkin said the evening will begin with a dance lesson featuring basic steps followed by dancing until the clock strikes 11. The evening also includes Victorian parlor games. The Youth Action Council will provide comestibles. Costumes are encouraged but not required, according to Judkins.

Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. Purchase tickets online at ci.oswego.or.us/parksrec/Victorian-dance or by calling 503-675-2549.
