York named Bells of the Cascades music director

Debut concert to be held April 28


by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - The Bells of the Cascades bell ensemble has named David York, front row, its music director.  David York was appointed music director of the Bells of the Cascades, an auditioned community bell ensemble made up of Portland-area musicians, including many living in Lake Oswego and West Linn.

York is best known for his work with vocal choirs including the critically acclaimed David York Ensemble, the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus and Aurora Women’s Chorus. He currently directs Portland Boychoir and Ovation!

He holds music degrees from Oklahoma City University, Portland State University and University of Oregon.

He has composed opera, oratio, symphonic pieces, ballet and numerous chamber works for chorus, electronics and various instruments including piano, guitar and handbells.

The ensemble’s debut under York’s direction will be held April 28 at 5 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 1314 SW Park Ave., in Portland. Suggested donation at the door is $20 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.

Those under age 4 are admitted free. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
