Lake Area Artists hold annual show and sale April 26, 27 and 28

Opening reception planned for Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Susan Greenbaum of Lake Oswego is a new exhibitor with the Lake Area Artists. The Lake Area Artists will hold its annual show and sale April 26, 27 and 28 at the Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State St. in Lake Oswego. Calling the event an “Art Affair,” the exhibit opens with a reception Friday evening from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with wine provided by World Class Wines and jazz music provided by Hanson Duo.

Guest potters for the event are Steve Schiefelbein, ceramics instructor at Lake Oswego High School, and Ron Linn of Oregon City.

Hours of the show are Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More than 600 original oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastels, collage and encaustic art pieces will be offered for sale, a portion of which will fund scholarships for art students at Lake Oswego and Lakeridge high schools.

New members to the show include Bill Baily and Susan Greenbaum, both of Lake Oswego and Gretha Lindwood of Portland.

Baily is no stranger to the Lake Oswego art scene. For more than 48 years he has been painting impressions of landscapes and seascapes as well as fruit and vegetable still life and abstracts.

He shows at the Portland Art Museum Rental-Sales Gallery and the Attic Gallery in Portland.

Greenbaum is also a watercolorist and is currently showing at Art Elements Gallery in Newberg. She has won many awards including an honorable mention in the Lake Oswego Chronicle Exhibit for the 2008 Festival of the Arts.

Words like “crisp,” “refreshing” and “vivid” are words Lindwood uses to describe her work. Vibrant color and strong design are hallmarks of her work done in pastels, powdered pigments.

She makes her marks on artist grade sandpaper to express the effects of light and atmosphere as she paints the landscape en plein air, in the open air. Recent awards for her work include both “Best Pastel” and “People’s Choice” awards at the 19th annual Carmel Art Festival.
