Sculptures scheduled to leave LO

13 works in Gallery Without Walls exhibit will be returned to artists

“Sadly, it’s at the end of the exhibition cycle,” said Jill Greenwood, program manager for the Arts Council of Lake Oswego.

The council negotiates on behalf of the city of Lake Oswego for the loan of 15 sculptures each year to be displayed for a two-year period. At the end of the two years, the unsold sculptures rotate out.

“Several popular sculptures are scheduled to leave in the next few months and we’re hoping someone will step forward and buy one to donate to the city or to enhance their garden,” Greenwood said.

"Kissing the Toad" by Jim Demtro has been a favorite of many people who have taken the free docent-led tour provided by ACLO.

“Kids of every age love to have their photo taken with the toad,” said Nancy Nye, ACLO executive director. “I’ve seen more than one girl kissing the toad in search of her Prince Charming.”

Other sculptures scheduled to leave include “Siblings,” 2012 and 2013 People’s Choice nominee; “Wind & Wave;” “Heron,” a 2012 People’s Choice nominee; “Guardian of the Journey;” “Adam;” “Let’s Go for a Bite;” “Apple Orchard;” “Life on the Bubble,” a 2012 People's Choice nominee; “Peer;” “The Road Through Texas,” a 2013 People’s Choice nominee; “Dancer;” “Stainless Steele No. 10;” “Silent Watcher,” a 2013 People’s Choice nominee; and “Meet You on the Corner.”

Citizens of Lake Oswego recently selected “Cloud Totem” as the People’s Choice of 2013. This sculpture by artist Riis Burwell will remain permanently in the Gallery Without Walls. The sculpture is currently located at Third Avenue and Evergreen Road.
