A master class will be offered at Marylhurst the day after the concert

Jonathan Leathwood will present the final concert in Portland Classic Guitar’s series on June 14 at 8 p.m. in Marylhurst University’s Wiegand Hall.

He will conduct a master class the following day at 11 a.m., also in Wiegand Hall.

According to William Jenks of Portland Classic Guitar, Leathwood is one of the few guitarists to perform on six-string and 10-string guitars, mixing modern and traditional works in his innovative programs.

“Just a few of his many recent recitals include appearances at the Festival di Cervo in Italy, the International Festival of Classical Guitar in West Dean in the UK and the Nurtingen Festival in Germany,” said Jenks. “After his London performance of Stephen Goss’s ‘Oxen of the Sun,’ in which Jonathan Leathwood played both six- and 10-string guitars simultaneously, Classical Guitar called him a ‘genius.’ His recording of this work is now available on the Cadenza label.”

Tickets for the concert range in price from $30 to $49; admission to audit the master class is $20. Both can be purchased online at

The 2013-14 concert series will be announced June 1.
