New sculptures to be unveiled Friday

Five of the new additions can be seen now

by: SUBMITTED - Matelasse by Reven-Marie SwansonThe new additions to the Gallery Without Walls will be unveiled Friday at a special celebration planned to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Millennium Plaza Park.

However, some of the 15 new sculptures, five to be exact, were not wrapped and can be viewed now.

“Some we couldn’t wrap because of their kinetic nature,” said Nancy Nye, executive director of the Arts Council of Lake Oswego. “And some of the artists are not able to attend the unveiling celebration, so we left their sculptures open for viewing.”

“All the sculptures have been installed in the downtown Lake OSwego area,” said Jill Vessely Greenwood, program manager for the Gallery Without Walls. “That makes it easier to facilitate the walking tour.”

Docents for the walking tour were in training late last week in preparing for the unveiling.

The five unwrapped include MerKaBa-Dura by Joe Burleigh, Salacia by Jen Ellsworth, Matelasse by Reven-Marie Swanson, Sunflower by Patricia Vader and Angel Flight by Jim Willis.

The celebration includes foods, beverages, children’s activities and traditional Chinese music and dance by Northwest Dragon and Lion Dance Association.

The event is free and open to the public.
