Nordby Design Studio opens up its Boutique Shop in downtown Lake Oswego
by: VERN UYETAKE Julie and Jon Nordby said they are excited to share their architectural and interior design business at their new downtown Lake Oswego location at 463 Third St.

You're invited to a housewarming party.

Owned by married couple Jon and Julie Nordby - he's an architect; she's a designer - Nordby Design Studio just celebrated 10 years in business by opening its Boutique Shop at 463 Third St. in Lake Oswego.

'It's the perfect size space and location,' Julie said of the location.

'And it's closer to home,' Jon added.

The change signifies the growth the company has undergone since beginning its architectural and interior services out of their home before moving to a office space in Tualatin. The new, roughly 1,000-square-foot space allows the duo to continue focusing on design projects while operating a boutique furniture and accessory store within the space.

The Nordbys have designed hotels in Mexico and local homes, additions and backyards - and then there's the Joe's Burgers restaurant in Portland they just completed, sharing step-by-step progress photos through their Facebook page 'NordbyDesignStudio ArchitectureAndInteriors' for burger fanatics.

'Our Revit 3-D program is great,' Jon said of the computer software that helps on each project. 'From the first meeting, our clients have a good perspective on things (and can) see how it's going to look in their home - whether it's a master bedroom or an addition.'

The Boutique Shop also allows the couple to focus on more interior work, such as space planning; choosing interior finish and color selections; furniture, art, antique, lighting and rug selections; reupholstery; and staging homes for sale.

The space is decorated in a cottage chic style with soft grays, linens and reclaimed wood and feels more like a living room than a corporate office. Two offices - one for him; one for her - complete the space while a large table is utilized for meetings and material selections.

'I love the presentations (with clients) to share the ideas to consider,' Julie said. 'This conceptual stage is my favorite.'

Because from there, the couple explained, anything is imaginable.

The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment only on Saturdays and Sundays.
