Poet Dorothea Lasky will read from her most recent book, “Thunderbird,” Oct. 17 to open the 2013-14 Marylhurst Reading Series.

Lasky is an assistant professor of poetry at Columbia University’s School of the Arts and lives in New York City. The reading begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Library in the BP John Administration Building on campus.

The reading series, sponsored by the Marylhurst Department of English Literature and Writing and supported by the Thomas Binford Endowment Fund for Writing, brings both emerging and well-known writers to campus to share their love of language and insights into contemporary culture.

In addition to Lasky, the year’s reading series will feature poet Rachel Jamison Webster in January, novelist Kevin Sampsell in February and memoirist Justin Hocking in May.

Readings and parking are free and open to the public.
