Magnolia Boutique participating in Shop Hop

Magnolia Boutique, 19155 Willamette Drive in West Linn, will participate in the Girlfriend’s Shop Hop Oct. 18, 19 and 20, along with 15 other consignment shops. Passports to the Shop Hop can be obtained by making a donation of two nonperishable food items or a $5 cash donation, which will benefit the Oregon Food Bank. The passport will grant the bearer savings at each shop, a chance to win a $50 gift card from every shop, door prizes and refreshments.

Wife, husband writing team featured

B.B. Cantwell, the pen name for the wife and husband writing team of Barbara and Brian Cantwell, are the featured authors at the Third Tuesday Author series Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Lake Oswego Public Library, 706 Fourth St. The couple has written “Murdermobile: A Portland Bookmobile Mystery.” She is one of the last librarians to serve aboard the Portland library’s last operating bookmobile in the late 1980s and he formerly wrote for a Portland area newspaper.

Learn to make foods from edible flowers

Vern Nelson, owner of A New Leaf Kitchen, will be the guest speaker at the Clackamas County Master Gardener chapter meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Milwaukie Center, 5440 SE Kellogg Creek Drive in Milwaukie.

Nelson will speak about his favorite edible flowers and how he uses them in the kitchen. For example, he makes rose brandy from flowers of the rugosa rose and St. Germain from the flowers of the elderberry and jelly from the flowers of Queen Anne’s lace. The event is free and the public is invited.

Stumptown Stages presents ‘Nine to Five: The Musical’

Stumptown Stages will present “Nine to Five: The Musical” Oct. 24 through Nov. 10. With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, the production is based on the 1980 hit movie “Nine to Five.”

Pushed to the boiling point by their boss, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. They conspire to take control of their company and learn there is nothing they can’t do — even in a man’s world.

The production is directed by Roger Welch and features Douglas Webster and Amy Jo Halliday. The performances take place in Brunish Theatre at Portland’s Center for the Arts, 1111 SW Broadway in Portland. Tickets range in price from $25 to $40 and can be purchased online at portland5.com/tickets or at the PCPA box office Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Oregon Children’s Theatre opens ‘Magic Tree House’

Oregon Children’s Theatre will present “Magic Tree House: A Night in New Orleans” Oct. 19 through Nov. 10 at the Newmark Theatre, 1111 SW Broadway in Portland.

Based on “A Good Night for Ghosts Magic Tree House No. 42” by Mary Pope Osborne, the play is directed by Stan Foote, with book and lyrics by Will Osborne and Murray Horwitz, music and additional lyrics by Allen Toussaint.

Shows run Saturdays at 2 and 5 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m.

Teens invited to Stumptown Stages master classes

Beginning Nov. 1, Stumptown Stages will host master classes for 25 high school students to work with the cast and crew and learn choreography and music. Contemporary exhibit extends call for artists

Galri Montaj Contemporary Art has extended a call for artists for its fall and winter exhibits. Focus for 2013-14 will be Pacific Northwest and regional artists from the Ring of Fire. Artists have the option of exhibiting for six months or one year.
