Several art studios will be open Oct. 12, 13, 19 and 20

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Learn how Randall Tipton creates his art during Portland Open Studios Oct. 12, 13, 19 and 20. This piece, Oswego Creek, is an oil painting.

Local artists are opening their studios this weekend and next to give viewers a unique and inspiring form of experiential education. The public is invited to interact with local artists at work within the context of their studios.

Throughout the Portland metro area, visitors can see up-cycled wearable fashion, watch molten glass or fine porcelain stretch into a vessel, imagine a landscape moments before it is painted, peer through layers of silk-screened band posters and much more. Art lovers of all ages and walks of life can discover new materials, learn about ancient techniques and share creativity with friends and family.

Lake Oswego artists participating in the tour are Theresa Andreas-O’Leary, Alexandra Boyden, Katherine Mead, Barbara Paanakker, Randall Tipton and Beth Yazhari. West Linn artists include Carolyn Drake, Harold Oxley and Sara Swink. Tipton plans on demonstrating a mixed watermedia technique on Yupo, a plastic paper from Japan, each day at noon.

Admission to the tour can be obtained in several ways.

Buy a $20 full-color calendar tour guide, which is good for admission for two adults (children under 18 are admitted free). This comes with images of artworks, coupons and an opportunity to win prizes. Included is a foldout map with contact information and directions to the studios.

Buy a $9.99 iPhone or Android app. This ticket is also good for two adults and children under 18 are still admitted free of charge. This gives you an interactive map linked to Google maps, a catalogue of artworks by all the artists and contact information for the artists.

Buy a $7.50 map only ticket. This ticket will be available close to the event date.

All three tickets are available at New Seasons, Collage, Muse and I’ve Been Framed and participating artists. For more information, visit portlandopenstudios.com.
