by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Between the Snows by Sarah Fagan.

Portland artist Sarah Fagan will show “Just Passing Through: Works From Wyoming” at the West Linn Public Library through Nov. 29.

The collection is of acrylic paintings on wood and paper, inspired by Fagan’s one-month stay at Brush Creek Ranch in Saratoga, Wyo. The paintings are complemented by natural artifacts such as bones, beehives and dried plants, gathered during Fagan’s stay in Wyoming.

Fagan said, “Turning my back on the three-quarter view normally employed by still life painters, I present my objects from an aerial perspective, sans environment. The resulting visual immediacy forces confrontation between object and viewer. ... There was much meeting of the manmade and natural during my stay in rural Wyoming, and the objects, compositions and even colors used in this series reflect my time there — my snowshoe hikes in the forest, my days cooped up in my studio in stormy weather or my long dinners chatting with other residents.”

Fagan received a bachelor of fine arts degree in 2007 from Stonehill College in Massachusetts and more recently a post baccalaureate certificate in book arts from the Oregon College of Art and Craft in 2010.
