Broadway veteran Justin Brill, in Portland with the national tour of 'Wicked,' will conduct a musical theater master class at Lakewood Theatre Company on March 28 at 11 a.m.

Brill will focus on singing technique, song selection, acting within a song and honing musical theater audition techniques. The master class is geared toward actors interested in auditioning for productions, competitions, professional training and college or conservatory programs.

Brill, who plays the role of Boq in 'Wicked,' is a graduate of the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama, where he was the recipient of the Charles Williard Award for excellence in musical theater. His Broadway credits include 'All Shook Up,' 'Rent' and 'High Fidelity.' Other productions include the national tour of 'Beauty and the Beast,' 'Mama Mia!' and Monty Python's 'Spamalot' in Las Vegas.

Master class participants should prepare two contrasting songs or a song and monologue. Each participant will be asked to perform approximately 16 to 32 bars of one song or a two-minute monologue. Brill will provide feedback to each participant then select several actors to demonstrate an in-depth analysis of the audition process.

An accompanist will be provided. Participants should bring sheet music with start and stop points clearly marked.
