Youth to perform Shakespeare in February

Elevation Youth Ensemble, a local nonprofit performance group, will present “A Mini Midsummer Night’s Dream” at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 and 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at the New Life Fellowship building, 27960 SW Canyon Creek Road, Wilsonville. Tickets are $5 each; children younger than 3 are admitted free of charge. Purchase tickets online at brownpapertickets.com/event/555168.

This is entertainment for the whole family, with a revised script containing some of Shakespeare’s lines in conjunction with modern translations. Original and new music is included. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Learn about the art of espalier

Mary VanAgtmael will discuss espalier, the art of plant training and mastery, at the Clackamas County Master Gardener chapter meeting 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Milwaukie Center, 5440 SE Kellogg Creek Drive in Milwaukie. The meeting is free and open to the public.

VanAgtmael discoved espaliering while growing grapes and explains that the technique is an attempt to control the nature of a plant by structuring its growth pattern with the use of rigid forms.

Trudy’s Living Room, 9740 SW Wilsonville Road in Wilsonville, is hosting the art show “Love is ...” starting at 5 p.m. Feb. 6. The public is invited to attend the free event.

Get tickets now for historical society crab fest

The Clackamas County Historical Society will host its third annual crab fest and art show at 4 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Museum of the Oregon Territory, 211 Tumwater Drive in Oregon City. Members of Three Rivers Artist Guild wil have art available for purchase and raffle tickets will be sold with prizes of art donated by artists. A silent auction will also be held. The event features a dinner of fresh Oregon Dungeness crab, salad, pasta, bread and dessert, served at 5:30 p.m. Willamette Valley Vineyards will present a wine pairing demonstration at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $60 each, $25 of which is tax deductible. Sponsorships are also available. Purchase tickets online at clackamashistory.org.

Food for Fines program is back

Through the month of February, Lake Oswego Public Library users can reduce their overdue library fines by 50 cents for each nonperishable food item donated at the library for Clackamas Service Center, which distributes the food to local residents who are in need. Library patrons without fines are also encouraged to donate food.

Last year more than 3,411 pounds of food was donated during the Food for Fines program, enough to feed approximately 150 families for a week.

The library is located at 706 Fourth St. in Lake Oswego.

‘Show Boat’ auditions set at LTC

Lakewood Theatre Company will hold open auditions Feb. 23 and 24 for the Jerome Kern/Oscar Hammerstein II musical, “Show Boat,” to be directed by Ron Daum with musical direction by John Quesenberry.

The director is looking for 12 men, ages 20 to 60s and 12 women, ages 20 to 50s. All ethnicities are encouraged to audition and all roles receive remuneration.

Auditions will be held at Lakewood Theatre Company at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State St. in Lake Oswego. Call 503-635-3901 to reserve an audition slot.

Those auditioning are requested to bring a resume, current 8x10 glossy photo and prepare a Broadway song in the correct key for your voice. An accompanist will be provided.

Three Rivers Artist Guild announces new show

Three Rivers Artist Guild (TRAG), with more than 100 members, hosts a gallery at 502 Seventh St., Oregon City. The first quarter rotation of art includes basketry, collage, jewelry, painting in a variety of media, cards, wood carvings and collector pieces. Featured artist for February is Cherilyn SunRidge of West Linn, who has taken her nature driven and symbolic work to a small scale, showing works on canvas four inches to ten inches in size.

Lakewood Theatre Company is planning a tour of London May 3 through 10.
