Family concert features pianist Lori Henriques

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Pianist Lori Henriques is the featured musician for the second Mountain Park Family Concert, scheduled for Feb. 21.

The second performance in the Mountain Park Family Concert series will feature Portland pianist Lori Henriques with special guests Aubrey Scarbrough and Matt Keeslar. The concert will be presented at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at Mountain Park Recreation Center, 2 Jefferson Terrace in Lake Oswego.

Henriques has been playing the piano and singing since childhood. She started out classically, culminating in a piano performance graduate degree. Inspired by children’s music composers of the 1970s, Henriques began writing songs a few years ago. Her award-winning first album “Outside My Door” features “rich jazz piano bounce and a brilliant use of vocabulary and wordplay,” according to Lynn Heffley of Parents’ Choice.

Stefan Shepherd with Zooglobble, says of her new album, “The World Is a Curious Place to Live,” that Henriques “clearly practices what she sings, offering up celebrations of the world outside of ourselves. Her jazzy-pop-by-way-of-Broadway-and-Carnegie-Hall is still unique in the world of kids’ music and worth being curious about.”

Henriques’ songs are featured regularly on Sirius XM’s Kids’ Place Live, where she has had No. 1 hits twice in the past few months with songs “Everlovin’ Water” and “Another Good Year.”

Tickets to the concert are $5 each and available in advance at ayaworld.com/aya-world-store.html.

The Mountain Park Family Concert series is recommended for those ages 5 and older and produced by award-winning performer Aaron Nigel Smith. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit One World Chorus, a nonprofit organization that is committed to sharing the gift of music with children around the world.
