Lake Oswegan Tom Swearingen will be the guest speaker at Oswego Heritage Council’s First Wednesday Series, to begin at 7 p.m. March 5.

Swearingen will share the cowboy poetry that has made him a popular presenter at cowboy gatherings, horse camps, rodeos and other places where western heritage is appreciated.

Winner of the National Finals Rodeo 2013 Cowboy Poetry Week contest, Swearingen’s poems are often based on his experiences and observations, many of which occur on horseback. Swearingen is a featured poet on Western Poetry Publishing’s website and his work has been featured by “Cowboys and Indians Magazine” and recognized by such organizations as the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas and South Dakota’s Heritage of the American West.

The free event takes place at Oswego Heritage House, 398 10th St., Lake Oswego. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for coffee and cookies; the presentation will run from 7 to 8 p.m.
