McLoughlin House reopens

The McLoughlin House unit of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site reopened to the public Feb. 14 following its annual winter closure.

Victorian cultural demonstrations will resume in March.

These hands-on craft and culture demonstrations will take place the second Saturday of the month through October.

The McLoughlin House is accessible by free, guided tours that begin at the Barclay House, 713 Center St., Oregon City.

The Barclay House is open to the public Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Literary contributions sought

Oregonians are invited to submit an essay or article for Oregon Humanities magazine’s summer 2014 issues on the theme “Start.”

The triannual magazine seeks stories, ideas, thoughts and arguments about good starts, bad starts, false starts, late starts, head starts, flying starts, running starts, jump starts; about starting over, starting from scratch and starting on the wrong foot.

The magazine is looking for fesh ideas, insights and perspectives, to show readers something from a different angle and make them see the world through new eyes.

Contributors are encouraged to visit oregonhumanities.org to review the guidelines and call for submissions and to familiarize themselves with the publication. No phone calls.

Art Extravaganza set for Lakewood Center

Clackamas County Arts Alliance will host a special event for artists, teachers and students working in all mediums of art from noon to 6 p.m. March 6 at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State St., Lake Oswego.

The event is a tools and technique trade show; people can test and sample products and artists will demonstrate techniques.

Most trade show events are free to the public, a modest fee is charged for workshops and lectures.

Door prizes will be offered throughout the day.

Admission is free, but the first 50 people who register will be entered into a special prize drawing.

The Clackamas County Arts Alliance is a nonprofit organization working to keep art and culture central to life in Clackamas County.

Kris Preslan exhibiting art at The Stafford

West Linn artist Kris Preslan will exhibit her watercolors at The Staffrd Boutique Retirement Community, 1200 Overlook Drive, Lake Oswego, during the months of February and March.

Spring garden art show to be held at Trudy’s Living Room

A spring garden art showcase will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. March 6 at Trudy’s Living Room, 9740 SW Wilsonville Road, Wilsonville.

Marien to speak at McLoughlin House

Oregon author RC Marien will speak about her book, “Grist: The Story of Life in the Oregon Country,” at 1 p.m. March 15 at the McLoughlin House, 713 Center St., Oregon City.

The presentation is part of a monthly series that takes place on the third Saturday of each month.

The event is free and open to the public.
