Lake Oswego resident Stephanie Sperring has recently launched a second career as an artist. She began thinking of creating children’s art after her twins were born about a year ago.

“While pregnant I spent so much time thinking about what I needed for my babies and spent a great deal of time looking at artwork for my kids’ nursery,” she said. “I found a lot that I liked, but kept imagining different art that I would like to create myself. I had seen a lot of art that was on wood, but nothing specifically geared towards children. That is when I started to create different animals using basswood, wood burning and acrylic paint.” Sperring has since created five different animal carvings and has plans for dozens more, some of which represents nature and the different seasons. Besides carvings she puts her images on canvases and greeting cards.

Sperring’s art is available for sale on etsy.com/shop.CarvedLife and in Milagros Baby Boutique, 5433 NE 30th St., Portland.
