Garden Time to air May 24

The popular locally produced “Garden Time” television show will air at 8:30 a.m. May 24 on KOIN Local 6, Portland and KEVU Eugene, and at 9:30 a.m. on KWVT in Salem. This season opening show includes segments on wall hanging succulents, an iris festival and raised planting bed options.

“Garden Time” is a production of the Gustin Creative Group based in Lake Oswego and is not affiliated with any station or network. Stories are subject to change.

Brain Food activity deck raises funds for arts in schools

The Right Brain Initiative has released Brain Food, an exploratory activity deck designed for use at home and school by children ages 4 and up. The 50 activities reflect the integrated and creative learning that Right Brain brings to classrooms in the Portland metro area. Right Brain is an arts education partnership of the Regional Arts & Culture Council.

All profits from Brain Food sales directly fund Right Brain’s school programming. The decks are currently available for purchase online at BuyOlympia.com and at New Seasons stores, Powell’s Books and other locations.

The New Senior Thespians to perform

The New Senior Thespians, also known as the Antique Roadshow Players, will present a comedy show of skits and improv at 1 p.m. May 29 at the West Linn Adult Community Center, 1180 Rosemont Road in West Linn. Refreshments will be served. The performance is free and all are welcome.

Lavitz announces performance schedule

West Linn musician Kenny Lavitz reports he is having a “keyboard smorgasbord” in May.

He will finished the month with Dave Aston May 23 at the C&I Bar and Grill, 18786 SW Boones Ferry Road in Tualatin.

Newberg Community Band to present concert

The Newberg Community Band will perform its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. June 5 at Bauman Auditorium on the George Fox University campus in Newberg. The McMinnville Second Winds will also perform. The concert is free.

First Thursday to feature authors

The First Thursday event planned for Trudy’s Living Room in Wilsonville will feature authors from around the State of Oregon. The event takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. June 5 at Trudy’s Living Room, 9740 SW Wilsonville Road in Wilsonville.

PYP to perform in Chicago festival

The Portland Youth Philharmonic and Musical Director David Hattner have been invited to appear in the 2014 Grant Park Music Festival at the request of Carlos Kalmar, Musical Director of the Oregon Symphony and Artistic Director and Principal Conductor for the Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago, Ill. The PYP will perform at 7:30 p.m. July 5 in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. The concert is free and open to the public and will serve as the conclusion of the PYP’s 90th anniversary season.

Before they depart for Chicago, the PYP will continue its pre-tour tradition of performing a free open-air concert in Portland. This year’s event will be held at noon June 25 in Pioneer Courthouse Square, 701 SW Sixth Ave. in Portland. All are invited to attend. Many musicians from Lake Oswego and West Linn play in PYP.

Attend Neighborhood Wine Fest in Canby

The annual Neighborhood Wine Fest will be held from noon to 6 p.m. June 14 at St. Josef’s Winery, 28836 S Barlow Road in Canby. The event showcases the wines and cuisine of Mt. Hood Territory, plus live music. SuDan Farms will offer organic lamb; Tony’s Seafood will provide salmon and chowder; Lady Bug Chocolates, Goldin Cheese Company and other purveyors will also provide items for purchase. Wineries participating include St. Josef’s Winery, Pheasant Run Winery, Alexeli Winery, Hanson Vineyards, Kings Raven Winery, Forest Edge Winery, Terra Vina Vineyards and Buddha Kat Winery.

Tickets purchased in advance online at stjosefswinery.com are $12 or two for $20. Advance purchase includes entrance to festival, eight tastes of wine (one from each winery), $16 in discounts for wines to purchase, live music, free parking, and arts and crafts displays.
