She now moves onto the state competition to take place in April. For the second year in a row, eighth-grader Ellie Grimes has won Our Lady of the Lake’s National Geographic Bee competition.

She now joins other school winners across the state in taking a written test.

The top 100 scorers on the written exam in each state will then be eligible to compete in the state GeoBee in April.

The National Geographic Society will provide the state champs and teacher escorts with an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., to participate in the national championship rounds to be held May 20 through 22.

The first-place national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the society and a trip to the Galapagos Islands, courtesy of Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic.

Everyone can test their geography knowledge with the GeoBee Challenge, an online geography quiz at nationalgeographic.com/geobee, which poses 10 questions a day, or by downloading the National Geographic GeoBee Challenge app.
