Outgoing LOSD foundation honors its own

Lake Oswego School District Foundation is lauding its outgoing executive director and offering something special for donors.

Mary Puskas retires this summer after serving the foundation for two decades, and the foundation is recognizing her service by adding a giving level designation for the Foundation Endowment Fund: the Mary Puskas Society.

Donors who designate to the endowment a gift of $40,000 to $100,000, or a cash donation of $20,000 to $100,000, gain membership in the Mary Puskas Society. There already were more than 25 members of the Mary Puskas Society as of Tuesday.

Marylhurst receives $100,000 grant

The Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund awarded Marylhurst University a $100,000 challenge grant for the school’s new master of science in Food Systems & Society program.

The program focuses on developing food systems that are more sustainable, healthy and just. Students will enter the program this fall.

The grant matches donations to support the program, up to $10,000 per individual and $100,000 total. The school had received $40,000 in individual donations as of Monday. The matching gift is available through the end of the year.

Academy class a record-breaker

The Oregon Connections Academy held commencement ceremonies for its largest graduating class ever this month.

This year, 235 students received diplomas, while wearing their caps and gowns on June 15 at a ceremony in Portland.

The school, which has many Lake Oswego students, is a virtual public charter school, and it was the fifth year that the school had graduation ceremonies.
