by: REVIEW PHOTO: JILLIAN DALEY - LOHS freshman Alexius Harris performs during the first Friday Break Live on Nov. 22. Senior Kevin Le has spearheaded a music program for the masses at Lake Oswego High School.

Friday Break Live is Le’s way of showcasing LOHS students with strong pitch and rhythm and pizzazz onstage. Not far from the front office, performers step onto a small stage and fill the air with sound during morning break every other Friday when crowds of students flood the halls. The event, which debuted Nov. 22, soon could be a weekly affair, Le said.

“It’s an opportunity for students to see what other students can do; it’s a form of recognition,” he said.

When seeking talent, Le, a violinist, taps his musical connections or asks potential players to audition.

His math teacher, Peter Dodson, sparked Friday Break Live, suggesting spotlighting musical teens, and Le and his leadership class put the concept into practice.

Dodson said the inspiration came from what he sees every day.

“I see daily the incredible talent our students have in all sorts of areas,” he said. “This includes their academic, artistic and athletic abilities.”

Dodson has noticed a positive response to Friday Break Live.

“It has been a welcomed and rewarding experience so far, and I hope it will continue on to become a tradition, “ he said.
