Lake Grove holding Cougar Day

The Lake Grove Elementary school community is invited to a fundraiser for the Parent Teacher Association.

The second annual Cougar Day — named for the school mascot — involves activities such as a visit from members of Olympic gold medalist Master Kim’s World Champion Taekwondo, Lake Oswego Academy of Dance, Lake Oswego High School cheerleading program and Lake Oswego Junior High Sailor Drama. There also will be face painting, an inflatable slide and a disc jockey. Students seek pledges from friends, relatives and community members, and donations are tax-deductible.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the school, 15777 Boones Ferry Road.

LO students finalists for Rose Festival court

Lake Oswego High School seniors Emily Brinkmann and Samantha Wong are among 12 finalists for the 2014 Rose Festival Court.

About 100 young women competed for a slot on the court on Saturday at Providence Cancer Center in Portland. Contestants must have earned a 3.0 GPA or greater and logged 20 hours of community service. Students at area schools will vote for their princesses, and the winners will be announced between March 4 and 21.

Court members will receive a $3,500 scholarship from The Randall Group and a shot at being the 100th Rose Festival Queen.

International Night on tap soon

Lakeridge High School’s Multicultural Club is holding its seventh annual International Night on Friday.

The event will feature food, music, cultural activities and entertainment.

Admission is free, but there is food for purchase on site. Proceeds benefit children in Kenya.

The event will be 7 to 9 p.m. at the school, 1235 Overlook Drive.

Lakeridge choirs perform next week

Choral director Bill Campbell will conduct all six Lakeridge High School choirs in a Tuesday performance, including the school’s a cappella choir and show choir, Company.

The Lakeridge Junior High choir also will take the stage during the free concert.

Doors open at 7 p.m., and the event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium, 1235 Overlook Drive.

LOWC scholarship available

The Lake Oswego Women’s Club is taking applications for its $1,000 Outstanding Community Service Scholarships.

The scholarships are awarded to students with a GPA of 3.25 or higher who attend West Linn, Lake Oswego or Lakeridge high schools.

Applications must be emailed or postmarked by March 21.
