Robotics team performs well at competitions

A Lake Oswego team earned awards at a robotics competition last month and qualified for the state competition held on March 1 — where the group advanced again. At a FIRST Tech Challenge qualifying tournament, which Oregon Robotics Tournament and Outreach Program sponsored, Team Axis of Lake Oswego received: first place, Innovate Award; first place, Control Award; finalist, Think Award; Finalist Award, for teams that made the final match; and second place, Inspire Award.

After attending state, Axis advanced to the Western Super-Regional Championship Tournament in Sacramento and will be competing March 20 to 22.

Team members are Colin Mitchell (captain), A.J. Rise, Reed Slobodin, Jackson Friess, Nic Quattromani, Max Chu, Doug Heymann and Peter Liu.

The team coaches are Gary Mitchell, Veronica Mitchell and Jim Rise, who is a mentor.

School concerts on tap next month

Local high schools are making music in April with nearly a week’s worth of concerts at the end of the month.

Lake Oswego High School is holding a choir concert in its auditorium 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 22 and a band concert 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 24, both in the school auditorium, 2501 Country Club Road.

Lakeridge High School’s Company Variety Show will perform 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 24, 25 and 26, and there is a 2 to 4 p.m. matinee on April 26. Concerts are in the school auditorium, 1235 Overlook Drive.

Open enrollment period ends soon

Lake Oswego School District’s open enrollment application period ends April 1.

The district is offering open enrollment in the 2014-15 school year to incoming student in sixth to eighth grade at Lakeridge Junior High and incoming students in ninth or 10th grade at Lakeridge High.
