During the Nationals Send Off on Monday, cheer teams from Aloha, David Douglas, Lakeridge, Lake Oswego and Newberg high schools tumbled, leapt and formed formations. The teams will be heading to nationals March 28 to 31 in Anaheim, Calif., along with teams from Springfield and Klamath Union High School, which couldn’t make the show this SUBMITTED PHOTO: CHRIS BUHLMANN - Lakeridge High cheerleaders showcase their moves at a recent event.

“It was so fun to see all the routines and feel the energy and support for each other last night,” said Terrie Sheik, LOHS head cheer coach. “Each team that performed has very impressive talent, not only the athletes but the coaches and the wonderful creative routines. It is a great group of teams representing Oregon. We all feel fortunate to be a part of it.”

Sheik said the idea grew from a similar event the dance program did, and the cheer teams that are going to nationals could make this an annual endeavor.

Lakeridge head cheer coach Christine Cooper coordinated a fashionable multi-team unifying effort involving T-shirts. Each team bought neon green T-shirts displaying an outline of the state of Oregon, a megaphone and a heart.
