Lakeridge High School stunt groups placed sixth and 12th in the intermediate stunt group division — a category with more than 34 groups. The high school also placed 10th in the small varsity intermediate division for cheerleading.

“We were so proud of how well they did, and the girls felt successful coming off the mat,” Lakeridge head cheer coach Christine Cooper said. “With only two seniors graduating, this team is gearing up for an even more successful 2014-2015 season.”

Aloha, David Douglas, Klamath Union, Newberg and Springfield high schools also sent cheer teams to nationals with Newberg earning first in the small varsity show division.

Cooper coordinated a unifying effort for Oregon teams involving T-shirts. Each team purchased neon green T-shirts displaying an outline of the state, a megaphone and a heart, and the teams sported their home state garb at nationals.by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - The Pacer cheer team competed at nationals last weekend in Anaheim, Calif., earning sixth and 12th in the intermediate stunt group division.

“It was extra nice to have the other teams from Oregon there for moral support,” Sheik said. “We all had neon green T-shirts on and were able to go down and cheer the other teams on.”

LOHS is holding an assembly Monday honoring the accomplishments of the Laker cheerleaders (varsity cheer earned seventh at state in February) and the dance team (which nabbed first at state in March).

Lakeridge High School varsity cheer landed the No. 8 spot at state, and the Pacer dancers danced away with second place.
