Maddie Hearn

Top scholar left off list

Maddie Hearn graduated from Lakeridge High School early.

Unfortunately, that may be part of the reason the school inadvertently left her off the Top Scholars list and why The Review didnt include her in our special graduation section in June.

Inspired by a classmate who traveled abroad, Hearn graduated to see the world after the first semester of senior year — with a 4.43 cumulative GPA. She spent her second semester studying abroad in Ecuador and Peru through a Portland-based program called Carpe Diem Education. While in Peru, she got the chance to take a five-day hike on the Salkantay Trek to the ancient, well-preserved ruins of the Incan city of Machu Picchu.

Hearn, 18, was accepted early to Middlebury College in Vermont, where she plans to study biology with a concentration in pre-med and to also pursue other study-abroad opportunities.
